SZ Photo - Briand-Kellog Pact, 1928
The Briand-Kellog Pact (also known as the Paris Treaty) was the first attempt to outlaw war under international law. On August 27, 1928, the treaty was signed by 11 states initially, and by 62 states over time. It is still valid today. It was named after the respective foreign ministers of the states promoting the treaty, Aristide Briand (France) and Frank Billings Kellog (USA). Germany, in the form of Foreign Minister Gustav Stresemann, also signed the treaty, but broke it about 11 years later with the invasion of Poland. - This selection contains pictures from our partner agency Süddeutsche Zeitung Photo.
