SZ Photo - Conquest of the Crimea by the Wehrmacht, 1941-42

After the Wehrmacht's almost complete occupation of the Crimean and Kerch peninsulas in the fall of 1941, the Red Army recaptured parts of Kerch in a counteroffensive (Kerch-Feodosiya operation) in the winter of 1941-42. In the spring of 1942, the Wehrmacht, under the supreme command of General von Manstein, launched a new offensive to take back the whole of Crimea. After heavy fighting, the Wehrmacht succeeded and the peninsula remained in German hands until the ìBattle of Crimeaî in the spring of 1944. - This selection contains pictures from our partner agency S¸ddeutsche Zeitung Photo.
