SZ Photo - Former princes and monarchism in the Weimar Republic, 1919-1932
The abdication of Kaiser Wilhelm II in November 1918 ended the centuries-long monarchy as a form of government in Germany. The Kaiser went into exile in Doorn (Netherlands), while a large part of his relatives remained in Germany and some of them had careers in the Weimar Republic and under National Socialism. A significant part of the population in Germany remained loyal to the monarchy despite the new democratic order and paid homage to the defunct German Empire. In particular, the DNVP-affiliated conservative associations openly displayed their convictions. - This selection contains pictures from our partner agency Süddeutsche Zeitung Photo.
