Die Dornier Do X, ein gigantisches Flugboot, wurde 1929 von Claude Dornier entwickelt und war mit 12 Motoren das größte Flugzeug ihrer Zeit. Sie galt als technisches Meisterwerk, flog jedoch nie kommerziell und hatte mit vielen technischen Problemen und hohen Betriebskosten zu kämpfen. Bis 1945 wurde die Do X nur für einige Werbeflüge und Tests genutzt und blieb ein Symbol für die ambitionierten, aber gescheiterten Versuche der Zwischenkriegszeit, den internationalen Luftverkehr zu revolutionieren.
