SZ Photo - Re­pub­likanis­che Truppen und in­ter­na­tionale Brigaden im Spanis­chen Bürg­erkrieg

Die republikanischen Truppen kämpften während des Spanischen Bürgerkriegs (1936–1939) gegen die nationalistischen Kräfte unter Francisco Franco, um die demokratisch gewählte Regierung zu verteidigen. An ihrer Seite standen die Internationalen Brigaden, bestehend aus Freiwilligen aus über 50 Ländern, die vom antifaschistischen Idealismus motiviert waren. Trotz ihres Engagements und ihrer Entschlossenheit scheiterten sie letztlich an der überlegenen Ausrüstung und Unterstützung der Nationalisten durch faschistische Regime wie Deutschland und Italien.
