The end of the empire - abdication and exile in 1918
The German Empire ended with the defeat in the First World War and the November Revolution of 1918. On November 9, 1918, Reich Chancellor Max von Baden announced the abdication of Kaiser Wilhelm II on his own authority and handed over his office as Reich Chancellor to Friedrich Ebert.On November 11 (Armistice Day), Wilhelm II went into exile in the Netherlands. He did not sign the official abdication document until November 28, 1918. Crown Prince Wilhelm also went into exile in the Netherlands after the beginning of the November Revolution (November 13, 1918) and declared his abdication of the throne on December 1, 1918.
