The Norwegian adventurer, explorer and ethnologist Thor Heyerdahl (06.10.2014 - 18.04.2002) is best known for his adventurous ocean crossings. He became world famous in 1947 when he and other explorers crossed the Pacific from Peru to Tahiti on his wooden raft "Kon-Tiki". Heyerdahl described his experiences on the Kon-Tiki in his book of the same name (1948) and in an Oscar-winning documentary film (1952). Other fascinating expeditions on water and land followed, such as Atlantic voyages with the papyrus boats RA and RAII.
