New York, 23 July 2026 – In the General Assembly Hall, the six candidates for the post of UN Secretary-General took questions together for the first time from diplomats, UN staff and civil society representatives. The debate, organised by General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock and broadcast by Bloomberg, is regarded as a significant milestone in the selection process to find a successor to António Guterres, whose term of office ends on 31 December 2026.
