Unrest in co-host country: Concerns about the World Cup in Mexico
Due to the recent escalation of violence in Mexico, concerns are growing in the football world ahead of this summer's World Cup. Since the military in the North American country killed the powerful drug lord Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes – also known as "El Mencho" – his followers have been setting fire to cars, banks, gas stations and shops, and erecting roadblocks.
