US government imposes sanctions on ICC President Tomoko Akane
The US government has announced sanctions against the President of the International Criminal Court, Tomoko Akane. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the Japanese Akane, together with the senior Senegalese lawyer Abdoulaye Seye, will be added to the sanctions list. He explained the move by saying that both had repeatedly been involved in investigations or arrests of officials whose governments had not agreed to the ICC's jurisdiction.
