Volunteers Pull Waste from an Indonesian River
In Joyotakan, Solo (Surakarta), Indonesia, volunteers are removing trash from the Premulung River that gets caught on a trash barrier, known as a “trash boom.” The program, called Sungai Lestari, aims to reduce river pollution and strengthen municipal waste management. According to the organizers, each cleanup effort collects 80 to 100 kilograms of trash, which is then sorted into compost, recyclables, and general waste.
