WWII - Liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp
ATTENTION: Graphic Content. The Auschwitz concentration camp was liberated by the Red Army on January 27, 1945. From 1940 to 1945, the SS operated the complex with numerous subcamps as a concentration and extermination camp. Between 1.1 and 1.5 million people were murdered here. Auschwitz became a symbol of industrial mass murder and the extermination of the Jews. The anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp has been the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of National Socialism in Germany since 1996 and internationally since 2005.
