Where the plants hibernate
In the orangery of Oranienbaum Palace, a gardener tends to over 300 tropical plants, including citrus fruits, palms, and fig trees. Cold-sensitive potted plants are moved to a light-filled overwintering house in late autumn. The 176-meter-long orangery, dating from the 19th century, is part of the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.
