Weimar Republic - The Occupation of the Ruhr region 1923
Because of outstanding reparations payments to the victorious powers of the First World War, Belgian and French troops occupied the Ruhrgebiet on 11 January 1923. The "Ruhrkampf", the passive resistance against the occupation of the Ruhrgebiet, began. After renewed negotiations on German reparations payments, the Ruhrgebiet was vacated in July 1925.
