WWII - East meets West in Torgau 1945 - Iconic Image
On April 25, 1945, American and Soviet soldiers reached out their hands on the destroyed Elbe bridge in Torgau, a sign of peace and the hoped-for end of the Second World War. Since the first meeting of two advance sections had taken place on an Elbe meadow amidst killed civilians, the official meeting had been moved to Torgau. The worldwide known photo of the historical handshake was reenacted on 26.04.1945.
