WWII - Francfurt air raid 1944

There is hardly a major German city that was not the target of British and American bomber fleets during World War II: On March 18 and 22, 1944, a particularly devastating hail of bombs hit Frankfurt am Main, changing the face of the city forever. Hundreds of medieval half-timbered houses burned, as did a large number of important cultural monuments. More than half of the homes as well as almost all public buildings such as schools, churches and hospitals in the city area were destroyed.
