WWII - Hitler's home guard (Volkssturm)
In September 1944 the "Volkssturm" was formed All men between the ages of 16 and 60 who were not yet fit for combat and 60 were called up as the last reserve in the fight for the German "final victory". The Volkssturm was under the military command of Heinrich Himmler, and was mobilized for entrenchment work, for local defense, but also for use at the front. In the last months of the war, many older and in part still very young members of the Volkssturm of the Volkssturm died or were taken prisoner of war.
